Sacred Heart Reunion!

by Sally MacDonald

“Let’s plan a reunion!” said Mary, one day.

Her enthusiasm was catchy, I must say.

So we worked, and we worked, and we worked some more.

Lots of phone calls and texts and messages galore.

Now the day has arrived. The hour is here.

We’ve all gathered together in our finest gear.

Hoping friends will remember us, from back in the day

When we knelt on those floorboards, and oh boy, did we pray

With hands joined together, rosary beads at the ready

While the nuns walked around us so silent and steady.

We remember the classrooms, those desks and those chairs,

The uniforms, that playground, and the tuckshop downstairs.

Some of us used slates, we’d scratch out our names,

and we all recall sports days with those amazing ballgames!

There was tunnel ball, captain ball, leader ball, and more,

Races and marching and relays Galore

But who can forget that incredible fun

When we’s stand out in front in the full morning Sun

To drink the warm milk in the bottles, and then,

Back into school we be marched again.

Now we have this great crowd, together at last

We can enjoy all the stories of friends from our past.

So, find your classmates, have a giggle and a chat,

Take photos, swap emails and all of that.

But remember these friendships, so sincere and hearty

Will be classmates forever. Now let’s go and party!
